The snakes of the world pages offer a comprehensive overview of the snake species found in the various countries around the world.
Snakes are found on every continent, with the exception of Antartica. They inhabit a wide variety of habitats from mountain ranges, deserts, rain-forests, savannah, forests, and even our oceans, rivers, and streams.
The snakes of the world are divided into 15 families, 25 subfamilies and comprise of approximately 2500 species.

The snake species listed for each country have been listed alphabetically according to their scientific names.
Each country's represented snake species have been divided firstly by family, sub-family, genus, species and includes known subspecies.
Common names have been included for the majority of species listed in the snakes of the world pages, however in some cases the common names were not available to us, and therefore only the scientific name is listed.

We believe that the information provided regarding the snakes of each country listed on these pages is up to date, however these should not be regarded as taxonomic references due to the constant DNA sequencing that is being done on snakes to determine the origin and identity of snakes. As a result we have no doubt that there will be many more name changes in the future.
