Reptiles in general, but specifically snakes, have always fascinated and terrified us from the dawn of time. For some, they represent virility and good fortune. Mostly, however, they are the very creatures that nightmares are made of. Through the ages these misunderstood creatures have been associated with the occult and symbolised evil. They have terrified us on the big screen and in both fictional and non-fictional literature.

It is time for us to set aside our prejudices and replace our fears with knowledge. Through knowledge and understanding we can learn to appreciate the beauty and complexity of these diverse and evolutionary marvels. Let us rather replace this irrational fear of snakes with a sense of respect and acceptance.
