Snakes of Australia
The snakes of Australia include some 208 species of snakes (including sea snakes), and some 64 subspecies. Although Oz has more venomous snakes than non venomous snakes, only 12 species can inflict a bite that could result in human fatalities.
Snakes can be found in all six states as well as both territories.
The list below contains Families,genus,species (scientific names & Common names) as well as known subspecies of Australian snakes. In some cases common names have not been available to us, and we welcome any additional information.
